What are Salvage Auto Auctions?

Salvage auto auctions, sometimes called insurance auto auctions, are usually open only to licensed auto dealers. One of the sources for cars at Interstate Auto Auction are salvage cars. Salvage cars, are cars that have been involved in accident. Interstate Auto Auction makes it easier to check on the history of a car, by providing the vehicle identification number (VIN number) of the autos for sale, so you can get vehicle history reports on the cars that interest you before the auction.

What are Police Auto Auctions?

Police auto auctions, sometimes called government auctions, include impounded cars and/or decommissioned cars that the police or government agency no longer wants.  These cars often provide a good buying opportunity. Interstate Auto Auction makes it easier to check on the history of cars from police auto auctions by providing the vehicle identification number (VIN number) of the autos for sale, so you can get vehicle history reports on the cars that interest you before the auction.

How A Live Auto Auction Works

Preview Time

Official preview time is 9AM to 5:30PM every Wednesday. Test drives are available from 9am to 5pm the day of auction.
Please note you do not have an automatic right to "back out" of a vehicle purchase. Therefore, inspect the vehicles closely during preview! The vehicles sold at our auctions range from late-model luxury cars in mint condition to "fixer-uppers" for mechanics that like a challenge. If you don't know cars inside and out, bring someone with you who does. If you want to test drive a vehicle, go to the key counter, present your driver's license, and ask for the keys.

Bidding

This is the fun part! Each vehicle will be driven through the building. The auctioneer will announce the lot number and describe the vehicle, announcing everything we know about it, whether good or bad. Then the bidding starts.
This process goes very quickly and can be confusing the first time. Read the following description and watch as a few vehicles are sold to get a feel for how it works.
The auctioneer will suggest a starting price: "Who'll give me one thousand dollars to start?" If nobody wants to start at that price, the auctioneer will lower the amount until someone bids. To bid, simply raise your hand and display your bidder number. A "bid catcher" will point to you and shout, "YES, sir!" The auctioneer will start asking for higher bids: "I have eight hundred dollars, do I hear nine hundred?" If someone wants to bid $900, he will raise his bidder number, the bid catcher will point to him and shout, "YES, sir!" If you raise the bid, the bid catcher will point to you and the other person will be out. The process continues until nobody wants to bid any higher: "I have nineteen hundred dollars, who'll give me nineteen-fifty? Going once, twice, third and final call: SOLD! For nineteen hundred dollars to bidder number 268." A clerk will write down the winning amount and the buyer number. If yours is the winning bid, the vehicle is now YOURS! At this point, please go to the office immediately to make a deposit.

Payment

When you are done bidding for the day, go to the office and present your bidder number to the cashier. You may pay with Visa, MasterCard, Cash, or certified funds. A $300 deposit is required for each vehicle at the time of your successful high bid. The balance is due by 5pm Thursday.

Check Out

After you have paid in full for your purchase, you will be given the keys and directed to your vehicle. All vehicles must be removed from the premises by 5pm Friday.
SELL YOUR CAR

Thank you for choosing Interstate Auto Auction (IAA) to assist you with selling your vehicle. We will present your vehicle for sale at one of our weekly public auctions where it will receive exposure to hundreds of potential buyers on our web site, at our live auction gallery in Salem, NH and through our popular online auction.

How it works:
In order to sell your vehicle at IAA, you will have to deliver it to our location at 20 Hampshire Road in Salem, NH. Along with the vehicle and keys, you’ll need to bring us the title and a $200 registration fee. Our office staff will evaluate your vehicle and give you an idea of how much your vehicle typically sells for at our auction. You will have the option of setting a minimum selling price (“floor price”). If your vehicle does not yield the desired floor price at the first auction, it may run in one additional auction. If it doesn’t sell at either auction, your options are to take the vehicle back, or lower your floor price and try the process again.

We divide our auction sale into two categories, Green Light and Red Light. A Green Light vehicle is defined as having a good running engine, transmission, and having no safety issues. A Red Light Vehicle may be in any condition, as we sell these vehicles AS-IS. A member of our staff will determine if your vehicle will run in the Green Light or Red Light sale.
When you deliver the vehicle to the auction, we will have you fill out a “Sell Your Car” registration form. From there, we will take multiple photos and create a detailed description of your vehicle for publication on our web site and in our online and auction gallery catalogs. The auction will take place on Wednesday or Saturday. If your vehicle sells, a $40 “Seller’s Fee” will be deducted from your check. You may pick up your check at the auction or we will mail the proceeds to you. Checks are available one week after the sale. *

You may fill out the "Request More Information" form below and a staff member will contact you. Alternatively, you may simply deliver your vehicle to the auction and we will provide you with the "Sell Your Car" registration form to complete. We accept vehicle deliveries on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. We can not accept vehicles on auction days, which are Wednesdays and Saturdays.

If you have any questions about our “Sell Your Car” program, please contact us at 603-893-7777.

*Note: All green light sales are subject to arbitration. Buyers who purchase your vehicle have the right to return the vehicle to IAA for reasons of engine or transmission failure, or discovery of a safety issue. In the event that IAA agrees with the arbitration issue, the sale will be cancelled and no sale proceeds will be issued to the seller. All arbitration issues must be presented to IAA prior to issuance of seller’s check

Internet Auto Auction

Live Real-Time Bidding

As a Proxibid customer, you can use your computer to participate in an auction from the comfort of your home or office. All bids are relayed over the Internet in real time, allowing you to bid with the same confidence as if you were attending the live auction.

Auto Bidding

When you cannot attend an auction in person—or simply do not have an opportunity to bid live using your computer—you may leave a proxy bid via our dynamic auction system. Your bid is automatically represented up to your maximum bid amount, using increments that the auctioneer has set prior to the live auction. Your anonymity and security are assured. Our auto-bid feature is a convenient way to submit your proxy bids once the auction has been posted live for previewing.

E-mail Notification

When you place a proxy bid on an item prior to the sale going live, your bid is recorded and stored in the Proxibid database. If your proxy bid is outbid by another bidder, our dynamic auction system automatically notifies you via e-mail that you are no longer in the lead for the item being sold. The e-mail will include a hyperlink to take you directly to the lot in question and allow you to quickly submit another bid for that particular lot.
